The vast majority of Labour members are unhappy with the biggest cuts to social security since George Osbourne became chancellor.
The proposed cuts to social security will be a disaster for disabled people, for Labour and for the poorest Labour heartlands and the Red Wall.
They were not in our manifesto. They have no mandate.
Over 50 MPs have a majority smaller than the minimum affected number of claimants.
If those claimants’ family and friends vote against Labour, that number is larger than 280 - the entire Labour majority. 2/3rds of the Parliamentary Labour Party.
The vast majority of claimants affected are over 40, with ailments of the body and skeleton related to work and injury.
We do not support a bill that cuts aid to those with bodies that have been damaged by their work.
